Common eye conditions that we see in our office.
Foreign Body:
Round piece of metal lodged onto the front of the eye.
Safety glasses should be used for eye protection.
Corneal neovascularization:
Blood vessel growth showing that the eye is suffocating due to contact lens
over wear. Decrease wearing time and
back up glasses recommended.
Corneal
scar: Permanent white scar on the surface of the eye due to contact
lens abuse. Decrease wearing time
and back up glasses recommended.
Pterygium: A
cloudy film growing to the front of the eye.
Sunglasses and a hat are recommended when outdoors.
Cataract: A cloud that blocks light from
getting into the eye and causing blurry vision.
Sunglasses are recommended to prevent cataracts.
Retinal Melanoma: Freckle
to the back of the eye that could be cancerous.
Dilation and visual field testing is recommended.
Diabetic
Retinopathy: Bleeding to the back of the eye from diabetes.
Patients should have routine dilation and visual field
testing.
Hypertensive Retinopathy: Bleeding to
the back of the eye caused by high blood pressure.
Dilation and visual field testing is
recommended yearly.
